The Oasis Católico Santa Rafaela was founded by the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an international order of Sisters, in September 2002.  Since then, the Sisters have been serving the families of the community with the help of many volunteers, various partnerships, and generous donations.

We invite you to read selections from our journal... we like to call it the "Athens Chronicles"!

The services offered touch the basic human needs. We provide interpretive services and transportation.  We distribute food, clothing, diapers, furniture, appliances, etc.  We care for the body by offering health screenings and eye exams.  We support social aspects through Girl Scouts, movies, fiestas, sports, and advocacy.  We nourish the intellect through help with school work, ESL for mothers, and special programs.  Of course we provide for the spirit with worship opportunities and religious instruction.

University of Georgia students serve as volunteers for the Oasis after school program helping children to do their homework and organizing educational games.

Over 40 children from the Pinewood Estates community participate.  UGA students may earn academic credit for their services in various ways.

Be enriched
by the voiceless, the underprivileged, and the underserved!
Come, be a volunteer!
